Hoover Garners GLVC Postgraduate Scholarship

INDIANAPOLIS – UIndy wrestling graduate Jackson Hoover has earned the 2025 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Postgraduate Scholarship, it was announced by the Conference office on Thursday.

The GLVC Postgraduate Scholarship is awarded to one male and one female each year in the amount of $2,500 each to be used in the first year of post-graduate enrollment at the institution of their choice.

Hoover has competed four seasons on the UIndy wrestling team, qualifying for the NCAA National Championship twice and finishing fifth to earn All-America status in 2025. He earned All-GLVC honors three times, claimed the NCAA Elite 90 award twice (2024-25), and won two tournaments – 2024 Bob Del Rosa Open and 2023 Jim Koch Open. UIndy head wrestling coach Jason Warthan noted Hoover's discipline, leadership, work ethic, character, and ability to serve as a role model for his teammates.

Majoring in biology with a pre-medical concentration, Hoover was named to the Academic All-GLVC team three times (2022-24) and carries an unblemished 4.0 GPA into his final semester as an undergraduate. He plans to pursue his doctorate's degree in medicine at the University of Florida, with the intention to use his degree to specialize in dermatology after college. The senior has earned honors including the UIndy Dean's List seven times, CSC First Team Academic All-American (2024), National Wresting Coaches Association (NWCA) Academic All-American three times (2022-24), and GLVC Spaulding Sportsmanship Award twice (2023-24).

Outside the classroom, Hoover has demonstrated his service and leadership skills through various initiatives. He organized a volunteer event at a local men's shelter in Indianapolis, where the wrestling team prepared and served meals to homeless individuals. As the founder and president of the Pre-Health Club at UIndy, Hoover created an on-campus organization to connect students with healthcare opportunities. In his role as Vice President of the Chemistry Club, Hoover helped with coordinating meetings and activities. Additionally, Hoover volunteered at Community South Hospital and Cancer Center, assisting with patient guidance, lab transport, and emergency department sanitation.

In order to qualify for consideration, the nominee must graduate by the end of the academic season – or by the end of the summer – of the application year, must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 (on a 4.0 grading scale), have competed in a GLVC-sponsored sport for at least two years, and be a member of a team in the year the scholarship is awarded. Each league member may nominate one male and one female from their respective institution.
