INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 4 seeded UIndy baseball team's season came to an end on Saturday in game three of the Midwest Super Regional at the hands of the No. 6 seed Northwood Timberwolves, 17-4. With today's win, Northwood clinched their first trip in program history to the NCAA DII College World Series.
INS & OUTS
Today's game was a total flip from game two, as Northwood got production from their bats from the jump, as they racked up seven runs and 10 hits in the first three innings. Their bats stayed hot throughout the entirety of the game, as they tallied 25 total hits on the day, and scored in all but two innings.
UIndy found a bit of life in the fourth and fifth innings from Austin Bode and Ian Kennedy, as both guys recorded RBI singles to cut into the Timberwolves lead, and make it 10-2 after five innings. Along with Bode and Kennedy's two RBIs, senior Dom Brown also made a pinch hitting appearance in the ninth inning, and drove in the remaining two runs for UIndy, giving Brown his sixth and seventh RBIs of the season. The Hounds failed to record back-to-back hits until the eighth inning, while the Timberwolves did so 12 times.
Seniors Cole Hampton, Nick Lukac and Tré Hondras, all recorded multi hit games in their final games of the 2025 season. The Greyhound senior trio combined for 21 multi hit games at Bill Bright Field this season, and 43 in total for the season. Two more seniors also made appearances as pinch hitters today, Armen Torosian and Eli Burkhart made their final showings for the program today, while Ryan Degroot also made his first appearance since April 17, when he came in to pinch hit against Drury.
The Hounds utilized nine pitchers today, including seven pitchers who got to make their final appearances for UIndy at Bill Bright Field; Austin Bestul, Brian Robertson, Carter Nowak, Frankie Klemm, Jacob Flaherty, Payton Plym, and Steven Jones. The other two pitchers to make an appearance in today's contest were, Nic Besecker and Will Melby. Bestul, Flaherty and Jones all pitched perfect outings, with none of the three seniors allowing a hit or run in their combined two innings pitched. Both Bestul and Flaherty recorded punch outs in the eighth and ninth innings respectively.
Along with hot hitting the Timberwolves also got a great outing from their starting pitcher, Trevor Crawford, who went seven innings, only allowing two runs and six hits. The two relievers that came into the game for Northwood, Adam Wandzel and Danny Witbeck, combined to allow three hits and two runs, but those two runs in the ninth weren't enough for the Hounds, as Northwood punched their ticket to Cary N.C., and the NCAA DII College World Series.
