SPRINGFIELD, ILL – In a tight-knitted finish, the University of Indianapolis women's tennis team fell to Rockhurst University 4-3 in the GLVC Championship Tournament Final.

The Hawks got out to a 1-0 lead after two convincing wins in the doubles point. The No. 28 ranked tandem of Eleanor Coleman and Zuzanna Szmyd got the better of Tyffaine Pais and Sofia Cardenas 6-0.
Rockhurst sealed doubles competition with a 6-2 win at #3 singles, where Suryanshi and Linya Chen fell to Maria Baez and Sofia Valdespino. Silvia Zappoli and Jimena De Pablos Hernando had a 5-3 lead at #2 doubles before the conclusion of doubles play.
In singles, the Greyhounds bounced back with wins at positions #2 and #3. Suryanshi got the ball rolling with a 6-3 6-2 win at #2 singles, while De Pablos Hernando gave UIndy a 2-1 lead with a 6-2 6-3 result over Szmyd in #3 singles.
In a thrilling ranked-matchup, No 37 Pais went the distance with No. 23 Coleman, but couldn't hold onto the first-set lead, falling 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.
Further into the singles lineup, both teams exchanged blows to level the match at 3-3. Rockhurst went up 3-2 after a 6-0 6-1 Daniela Lentisco win over Zappoli. Moments later, Cardenas overpowered Baez 6-2 6-2 to tie up the match.
It all came down to #4 singles, which hosted a battle between Linya Chen and Marina Magai. The first set was contested on both fronts and went all the way to a tiebreaker. Magai found a break and held on to win the first-set tiebreaker 7-3. That momentum carried her into a 6-2 second-set victory, clinching the match for Rockhurst.

The Greyhounds now move onto Regional competition, where they're currently ranked the No. 8 team in the Midwest. They will know their opponent come Monday evening, at a location to be determined.
