Men's Tennis Pull Regional Hosting Honors, Face No. 27 Purdue Northwest

INDIANAPOLIS – With the preliminary round of the DII NCAA Men's Tennis Championship on the forefront, the No. 17 UIndy men's tennis team prepares to welcome No. 27 Purdue Northwest, No. 30 Ferris State, and No. 20Wayne State for one half of the Midwest Regional.

Before the announcement of the Regional, UIndy took home their 15th consecutive win in the GLVC Championship against Rockhurst in a 4-0 sweep. It was their third consecutive Conference title, and their sixth win against a ranked opponent on the season.

The Hounds have come into top form when it matters most, and set their eye on advancing into the field of 16 in the Big Dance for the 10th consecutive season. (Barring Covid-19 season.)

The first team in their way is the Pride of Purdue Northwest, who come to Indianapolis ranked No. 27 in the nation. With a 17-8 record in the regular season, the Pride clinched their first NCAA Regional berth in school history.

When the Hounds hosted the Pride earlier in the season, UIndy flexed their guns in the singles play and took home a 5-2 win.

UIndy will face Purdue Northwest in the first round of the Midwest Regional at 11 AM tomorrow, May 9, on the grounds of Center Grove High School.

On the other half of the bracket, a battle between two of the top GLIAC schools will ensue between Ferris State and Wayne State. These two teams have faced each other twice this season, with the Warriors besting the Bulldogs in both matches.

Both Wayne State and Ferris State are familiar opponents to the Hounds, after matching up with both schools early in the regular season. The Greyhounds fought hard to take a 4-2 win over FSU, and were narrowly edged by WSU 4-3.
