INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy athletics department announced its 2024-25 year-end award winners on Thursday, highlighting six students-athletes in various categories. Notably, swimmer Andrea Gomez and wrestler Derek Blubaugh were voted as the Dr. Robert M. Brooker Most Valuable Athlete for their respective genders.
Each varsity sport's head coach selected a Most Valuable Player from their respective roster. Those winners were then eligible for selection as UIndy's overall male and female Athletes of the Year by the athletics department coaches and administrators.
Gomez earned six All-America honors, including four individual All-America First Team honors, with two national championship titles (1000 free and 400 IM), and two additional top-three showings in the 2025 NCAA DII Championships. Gomez is only the third Greyhound woman to record two individual title events in the same week and the program's first-ever title-winner in the women's 1000.
The Pamplona, Spain, native won four GLVC event titles at the conference meet (1000, 1650, 400 IM, 400 FR). Gomez broke six school records during the season and currently holds five individual school records for the Greyhound women (1650 Free, 200 Fly, 500 Free, 400 IM, 1000 Free).
Blubaugh led the Greyhounds on the mat, capping off his career with an individual National Championship title at the 2025 NCAA Division II National Championships Festival. Blubaugh claimed back-to-back national championship titles at 197 and was the first in the Greyhound record book to reach finals in his weight class four times. The two-time national champion finished the season with a 21-3 record and ended his career with 128 wins, ranking third in program history.
The Bloomington, Ind., native was also awarded Academic All-GLVC and was a GLVC Council of Presidents Award Honoree for the 2024-25 season.
