CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The UIndy volleyball team closed the Cedarville Invitational – and weekend – with a sweep over in-region Saginaw Valley State on Saturday afternoon, bouncing back from a morning loss to West Liberty.
Â
Paige Parlanti posted a pair of double-doubles, including a team-high 10 kills against SVSU, while
Maddie Lynch totaled 31 kills over the eight sets. The Greyhounds attacked at a .280 clip against the Cardinals, marking the fifth time in the last seven matches the team has done so.
Â
Saturday was the first time UIndy and West Liberty squared off on the volleyball court, while the Hounds and Cardinals renewed a regional rivalry with their first meeting since 2019. UIndy leads the all-time series, 11-2.
Â
UIndy 3, SVSU 0
It was a gritty first frame in the nightcap before UIndy claimed the early edge, 25-23.
Kaitlin Fasbender joined Lynch as key contributors, each tallying a kill and combining for a block for the team's final three points of the set.
Â
The Hounds served their way to complete control in the second, recording eight of their 12 service aces during the middle game. Junior
Allie Wuestenfeld contributed six of those in the victory, including five straight aces during an 11-0 run. Fasbender and Parlanti each knocked down a pair of kills during the stretch.
Â
UIndy used another impressive run, though just six consecutive points, in the third set to gain a 10-3 lead and never look back.
Makenzie Pflederer tallied three of her five kills in the final frame, while
Lucia Brown capped the Hounds' ace counter at 12 to complete the sweep.
Â
West Liberty 3, UIndy 2
The Greyhounds appeared to lock in a four-set victory on Saturday morning before West Liberty forged an improbable comeback with 17-9 on the scoreboard. Within a blink of an eye, the Hilltoppers led 22-20. Parlanti recorded back-to-back kills to knot the set at 23 apiece, but West Liberty completed the comeback to force a fifth.
Â
The Hilltoppers rode their momentum despite kills from Parlanti and Pflederer, pulling away from the Hounds with a 13-9 advantage. Lynch scored her final kill of the match before West Liberty ended it with consecutive points.
