INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy women's soccer team dropped their home opener, 3-2 against Truman in a wild back-and-forth contest.Â
Today's win for the Bulldogs pulls them ahead of UIndy in the all-time series record between the sides, with Truman now having an 8-7-3 record against the Greyhounds since 1997.
The two goals scored by UIndy in today's loss are also the most goals scored in a loss by the Hounds since they also fell 3-2 in 2018 to Southern Indiana.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs jumped out ahead within the first five minutes on a Quinn Nauman goal that nestled into the top right corner of the goal to give Truman a 1-0 lead.
Antiya Sidibe and Ella Higbie both had the lone shots on goal in the first half for the Greyhounds, but both were not very testing of Truman's Siman Loethan in the 29th and 42nd minutes, respectively.
But most, if not all of the action, came in the second half as the Greyhounds came out of the locker room with something to prove, as they got two quick goals within the first three minutes of the second half from Izzie Wallace in the 46th minute, and Higbie in the 47th minute. Both their first of their young Greyhound careers.
Wallace's goal came off a sweet dish from Kendal Waugerman that found Wallace inside the six-yard box to tie the game at one. While Higbie's came off a Morgan Peters assist inside the 18-yard box fell to the feet of Higbie who calmly tucked it away to put UIndy ahead 2-1.Â
Â
Truman wasn't done though, as they responded with two quick successive goals to retake the lead 3-2 after 70 minutes.
Madison Blomenkamp for Truman was the recipient of both Bulldog goals, one on a breakaway in the 64th minute, and the other on a cross and finish from her midfield counterpart, Hanna Ritter in the 71st minute.
Wallace had a chance at her second two minutes after the Blomenkamp goal to get the equalizer, but her chance was saved.
Kendall Ellis also notched two big saves late to keep the deficit to only one, but those saves wouldn't prove to be enough, as the Bulldogs came out on top 3-2 in the teams' GLVC opener.
