Women's Soccer Secures Draw Against Upper Iowa

INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw against Upper Iowa at Key Stadium on Friday night.

This marks the first time since the Peacocks joined the GLVC in 2023 that the Hounds were unable to beat Upper Iowa. Tonight's game was dominated by the Greyhounds though, as the team stuffed the box score with plenty of chances, 20 shots compared to only four for Upper Iowa.

20 shots are the most shots in a game for UIndy dating back to last season when UIndy fired 24 shots against GLVC foe Missouri S&T.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds looked to grab that first win of the season from the jump. Lyza Shamy, Nicole Schroeder, Rochelle Maxson, and Suhkmani Shergill all created chances for the Hounds in the first 17 minutes of the match.

Schroeder found the breakthrough for UIndy in the 19th minute, after a quick corner taken by Shergill found Schroeder at the top of the 18 yard-box, where she smashed a left footed shot past Sienna Johnson to give UIndy the 1-0 lead.

But the opportunities to snag that second goal didn't end for UIndy, as Schroeder and substitute, Ella Bredensteiner, continued to pepper Johnson with shots. The two combined for five more chances in the first half, two of which forced saves out of Johnson in the 25th and 33rd minutes.

The Peacocks remained patient, and capitalized on a mistake in the back line for the Hounds in the 40th minute. Giovanna Alexa Garcia buried their best chance of the first half past UIndy's Maria White to knot the game at one headed to the half.

After 12 shots in the first half, the Hounds continued their charge to find the now game winner in the second half.

Bredensteiner and Antiya Sidibe in the 65th and 75th minutes were the two best early chances for UIndy. Bredensteiner's chance forced a save from Johnson, while Sidibe's shot rang off the crossbar just 10 minutes later.

The second half action came in the closing minutes, as teams traded blows in an effort to seal the game.

Sidibe's chance in the 82nd minute, and Zy'Aire Parker's shot in the 87th minute were both saved by Upper Iowa's goalkeeper. But Upper Iowa had one last gasp of a chance in the final two minutes, but was denied by Maria White to secure the one all draw.

INSIDE THE BOX
- White made her first career start for the Greyhounds tonight, making one save.
- Schroeder's goal tonight was the first of her career, while she also set career highs in shots (4), and shots on goal (2).
- Sidibe had her most shots in one game, four, since she recorded six against Missouri S&T last season.
- Shergill tallied the second assist of her career tonight.
