Hounds Draw William Jewell in Wild Friday Night GLVC Showdown

LIBERTY, MO. – The UIndy women's soccer team's comeback effort fell just short in Friday night's 3-3 draw against William Jewell.

Six combined goals in a game is the most in a single game since last season when the Hounds put up six goals on the Cardinals in a 6-0 win.

Today's draw also extends UIndy's unbeaten streak against William Jewell to 10 games dating back to 2016.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Friday night's game was full of twists and turns, including two lead changes, 16 shots, six saves, five yellow cards and a red card.

William Jewell had three total shots early in this one, but Kendall Ellis came up with saves on two of those three attempts, keeping the score knotted at zero after 11 minutes.

The game took a turn when Nicole Schroeder was sent off in the 22nd minute, on a tackle that denied a scoring opportunity for William Jewell. Lux Sands took the proceeding free kick at the top of the 18-yard box, but her effort hit the cross bar.

Ella Bredensteiner had the Hounds' two best chances of the first half, including forcing a diving save from William Jewell's Jenna Skeeters in the 32nd minute.

Sands finally found the breakthrough for the Cardinals, netting her first goal on a curling effort in the 42nd minute, before doubling the lead just three minutes later on a breakaway to send William Jewell to the locker room up 2-0.

But even down to 10 players, the Greyhounds did what they did against Truman, they found an early goal out of the break to get UIndy right back in the game. Rochelle Maxson whipped in a cross that eventually ended up at the feet of Ella Higbie who tucked it away to get the Hounds within one with 42 minutes to play.

Higbie grabbed her second goal of the match and the UIndy equalizer 20 minutes later when a Lyza Shamy corner kick found Higbie who finished the goal with a one time effort.

The Hounds' attack continued and were rewarded with 10 minutes left after a throw-in hit the hand of a Cardinals defender inside the 18-yard box. Shamy capitalized on the penalty kick opportunity, just getting it past the outstretched arm of Skeeters to put UIndy ahead 3-2.

William Jewell only recorded two shots the entire half because of UIndy's stellar offensive assault, but with just over one minute left in the match, Megan Griffin stunned UIndy with a goal to square and steal three points from the Greyhounds.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Shamy scored her first goal since 2023 against West Virginia State.
- Higbie scored her second and third goals of the season tonight.
- Bredensteiner added to her team high eight shots with two tonight against the Cardinals.
- The Hounds had their most efficient game of the season, racking up six shots with five of those six shots ending up on frame.
