Hounds Sweep Prairie Stars to Close Out Opening Weekend of Conference Play

Springfield, Ill.— The UIndy Volleyball team opened 1-1 conference play in Illinois this weekend, bouncing back with a sweep against the University of Illinois Springfield after falling to Quincy 3-1 Friday.

Quincy 3, UIndy 1
The Hounds took set three after dropping the first two against the Hawks, off a Maddie Lynch kill. UIndy kept it close the whole match, with the last three sets only being decided by two points.

Graduate student Lauren Gips was a force for the Hounds' defense with 10 blocks on the night. Junior Macy Bruton nabbed a career-high 25 digs in the four-set matchup. Three other Greyhounds joined Bruton with double-digit digs: Paige Parlanti (14), Allie Wuestenfeld (13) and Carly Fonda (12).

Maddie Lynch led the attack for UIndy with 17 kills, and Parlanti added 13 of her own for the Hounds.

UIndy 3, UIS 0
The Hounds easily controlled the Prairie Stars in the opening two sets and went on a 7-0 run off three UIS errors to close out set one. UIndy stayed hot to open the second set with a 10-2 run over UIS. The Prairie Stars went on a run of their own to open the third set, outscoring the Hounds 7-2. UIndy crawled back to tie the set at 12, then the two squads traded the lead until the Hounds went on a 7-1 run to lift them over the Prairie stars 25-19.

Lynch had a game-high 12 kills for the Hounds, with Makenzie Pflederer adding on 8 and Gips adding 7 kills of her own. Fonda also had a game-high 33 assists for the Greyhound offense.

Three Hounds saw double-digit digs in the match, led by Bruton with 19, followed by Parlanti with 12 and Wuestenfeld with 10.
