Hounds Fall to Parkside in Five Sets in Season Opener

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy volleyball team fell in a five-set match against Parkside in its season opener on Thursday night from Ruth Lilly Fitness Center.

Juniors Maddie Berger and Macy Bruton, along with freshman Carly Fonda, contributed 12 digs each for the squad. Fonda also tallied 41 assists in her collegiate debut.

INS & OUTS
Trailing 2-0, the Hounds stormed back to take sets three (25-20) and four (25-17) to force the Rangers into a deciding frame.

Paige Parlanti went off in the winning games, scoring 10 of her 15 kills to help the cause. Seven of the Hounds' 17 blocks also came in the third and fourth sets, including four from Riley Laine. The junior middle, who entered in the second set, totaled nine blocks on the night, including one solo stop.

Sophomore Maddie Lynch knotted the final frame at 13 apiece with her final kill of the evening before Parkside recorded back-to-back points to halt the reverse-sweep attempt.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Lynch joined Parlanti with a team-high 15 kills. 
- Transfer middle Lauren Gips hit .318 in her Greyhound debut, finishing eight kills, seven blocks, and four digs.
- The match featured 20 ties and 10 lead changes.
- For the Rangers, Reshirt Junior Ava Irvin led all scorers, tallying 24 points, while her teammate Lucy Russ led the game in assists with 52.

UP NEXT
The Hounds return to Ruth Lilly for day two of the UIndy Invitational tomorrow at 4:30 to face No. 13 Concordia-St. Paul in their second match of the 2025 season.
