Hounds Stave Off Comeback, Secure Second Straight Win

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's basketball team held on against Rockhurst on Saturday afternoon, winning 65-61, after managing to build an 18 point lead early in the third quarter.

Graycie Poe scored a season-high 21 points today, including going a perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe, which is the second time in the last three games that she has been perfect from the line.

Halie Gilbert also posted the first double-double for the Greyhounds since Patricia Chikamba's 15-and-15 outing last season against Maryville.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Following a tight opening seven minutes, the Greyhounds utilized an 18-7 run spanning the first and second quarter to propel them ahead by 16. UIndy got to the line eight times, converting on six of those attempts, and knocked down two threes from Poe and Sapenter over that eight minute run.

The Greyhounds' second quarter defense was stellar, holding Rockhurst to only seven points, forcing five turnovers and snagging three steals. Seven points are tied for the fewest points UIndy has held a team to in one quarter this season.

After extending its lead to 18 with seven minutes to go in the third, Rockhurst went on a run of its own, a 32-13 run over a 12 minute stretch, to take a one point, 53-52 lead, with four minutes remaining, setting up for an exciting final few minutes.

The teams traded buckets over the final four minutes, with big shots from Poe and Taylor Van Meter to keep the Greyhounds ahead. But the difference was UIndy converting on nine of their 12 free throws over the final four minutes to secure the five-point win, and stave off the Hawks comeback effort.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Gilbert grabbed the second-most rebounds of her Greyhound career, her most coming when she grabbed 12 boards against Missouri S&T last season.
- The Greyhounds got to line 26 times, which is a season-high, while also knocking down a 2025-26 high of 19 from the charity stripe.
- For the ninth straight time, UIndy managed to corral 30 plus rebounds, and have done so in 13 of the team's 17 games this season.
- UIndy took advantage of the Hawks' turnover woes, forcing 23, and scored 30 points off those turnovers.
