UIndy Dominates Quincy in Home GLVC Dual

INDIANAPOLIS – After a defeat last week to Findlay, the No. 20 ranked UIndy wrestling team responded with a convincing victory over Quincy, 28-9. UIndy is a perfect unbeaten 4-0 against Quincy since 2022, including the Hounds' commanding 41-3 rout at last season's regular season dual.

INS & OUTS
The night started off with a bang in the 149 weight class, as No. 10 Gavin Garcia and No. 7 Sabian Russell squared off in a top-10 nationally ranked match up. After Garcia took a 2-1 lead in the final minute of the third period, Russell used a late takedown to jump out in front 4-3, and used his riding time to secure the 5-3 win over Garcia.

But following Garcia's battle at 149, the Hounds took six of the next seven matches in the dual. Christian Chavez (184) highlighted UIndy's seven wins on the night, as his bout with Callan Ivy, went to a tie breaker, where Chavez escaped to take the 2-1 lead, and controlled the remaining 45 seconds to clinch a gritty 2-1 win.

Michael Ortega (165) and Cale Gray (285) both cruised to victories today, both securing second period tech fall wins, with Ortega winning 16-1, while Gray pitched a shut out, 15-0.

Shane Bates (174) and Ethan Farnell (197) collected six team points for the Hounds, with tightly contested decision wins. Bates corralled five third period points to pull away from MacAllistair Chamber, and earn an 8-2 decision win. Nathan Smith (125) earned six team points after a forfeit at the 125 weight class.

Zach Haughton (141) capped the night off with the Greyhounds' seventh victory on the night where he utilized two first period take downs to earn an early 6-0 lead. He added to two late escapes in the third period to get him to eight points, and clinch a one point victory, and the 28-9 team win over the Hawks.

Mason Day (165) fought well in his first career dual match for the Greyhounds, with a close 10-8 decision against Jackson Jones, while Te'Andre Allen took down Jadon Gyan, who wrestled in 133 tonight after wrestling in 125 most of the season.
