Greyhounds Clinch GLVC Tourney Home Game with Tie Against Lewis

INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy men's soccer team finished a 1-1 draw versus visiting Lewis Wednesday night at Key Stadium. The result secured the Greyhounds' position as a top-four seed in the GLVC standings, meaning they will host their opening matchup of the GLVC tournament for the eighth year in a row, the longest active streak in the GLVC.

The Greyhounds again found a quick start to the game challenging their opponent's backline early, but not finding a goal despite an early shot on target from Sam Siegel which was followed by a pair of corner kicks.

After some back-and-forth, Lewis then looked for a response of their own in the 12th minute which Lammerts saved, but just five minutes later the Flyers converted to earn an early 1-nil lead.

Following the goal, the transfer duo of Alejandro Zuniga and Shayne Abrams were subbed on and looked to continue their productive offensive campaigns. The two soon got into a rhythm with each working in the midfield before Zuniga, the team's leader in shots this season, sent another on target which was deflected just enough to ricochet off the post and keep the score at 1-0 entering half.

The first half was defined by UIndy struggling to fully control possession and their shot accuracy lagging behind that of the Flyers. In the second half those trends were flipped on their head.

Just four minutes into the second half, Zuniga found his first goal as a Greyhound on a tricky free kick finish where he snuck the shot just under the leaping wall of Flyers and past the hands of the keeper.

The Greyhounds found strong control of possession after with Abrams, Joey Longo and Owen Hardy all challenging the Lewis goal, but none being able to convert.

As the second half progressed so did the intensity in the final 10 minutes where it felt like the two teams traded a threatening offensive possession with each other nearly each minute.

Ultimately, neither side was able to find a second goal in the contest, ending the 36th meeting between the two programs in just the sixth draw all-time and first in the regular season since 2021.
