INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy women's soccer team fell 3-0 at home against the Lewis University Flyers.
The matchup saw an early shot from the Flyers which UIndy quickly responded to with a pair of shots in the opening 10 minutes of action.
Mia Bajic was one of the Hounds to send in a shot with the first shot on goal of the contest coming from her in the ninth minute.
Lewis soon responded with their first shot on goal, finding the back of the net in the 12th minute.
The Flyers took control of the first half, firing two more goals in the next 12 minutes and scoring on each to gain a three goal lead.
The final 15 minutes of the first half saw UIndy fight back, earning a corner and a promising opportunity in the waning moments of the half where a Ellie Heyob shot rolled just off target despite a well-timed run to open up the shot.
The second half saw a new keeper in goal for the Greyhounds with Samaya Hogg returning to the field for UIndy for the first time since Sept. 23 and she stepped up. In the second half Hogg helped keep the Greyhounds within three with multiple saves throughout the half.
She also found help from substitutes like Sarah DeWeese who played significant minutes in the second half and played a crucial role in maintaining more possession in the final 45 minutes of the game.
Coach Nick Smith also leaned more on a trio of freshmen off the bench in Heyob, Ali Dobbs and Caly Evers who also helped lead strong offensive moments throughout the second half.
The Greyhounds will have their final matchup of the season at home when they take on the Truman Bulldogs Saturday, October 24th at 12 p.m. when they return to Key Stadium.
