Hounds Produce Comeback Win on Senior Day

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy football team used a big fourth quarter to outpace visiting Southwest Baptist Saturday afternoon, 37-34. Trailing by two touchdowns late in the third quarter, the Greyhounds racked up 31 points in the game's final 16-plus minutes—including a game-winning field goal by freshman Zach Hermanson—to send the Bearcats home with a loss.

SENIOR DAY
UIndy honored 12 senior student-athletes prior to the action. Keiveion Anderson, Luke Chambers, Wrigley Franklin, DeBrince Johnson, Nashon Johnson, Giovani Laurent, Jordan Lee, Tyler Leopold, Ki'Arran Love, Jacob Newlin, Carlos Orea and Colton Wilkie were all recognized for their hard work and dedication to the program. The group has now combined to help the Hounds to a 36-10 (.783) record the last four years, including three GLVC titles and three playoff appearances to date.

INS & OUTS
Down 20-6 in the final minutes of the third quarter, the Hounds got hot, stringing together four consecutive touchdown drives before setting up Hermanson for the aforementioned game winner. Senior wideout Kaleb Carver scored two touchdowns during the decisive surge, including a 47-yard TD reception to give the Hounds their first lead with just 4:20 to go.

The Bearcats answered with a touchdown drive of their own, knotting the score at 34 apiece—the third tie of the fourth quarter. SBU kicked off with 2:04 on the clock, which proved ample time for Patterson and the UIndy offense.

Junior running back Garrett Sherrell started the possession with the last of several big kickoff returns, then immediately broek off a 31-yard rush to quickly put the Hounds within field goal range. Two more handoffs to Sherrell followed before Patterson got five yards closer on a designed run, making it a 38-yard try for Hermanson with 90 seconds to go.

The freshman calmingly split the uprights—good for his second 38-yard field goal of the afternoon—while the UIndy defense clamped down one final time to seal the victory.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Sherrell finished with 135 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 attempts, part of his 276-yard all-purpose total.
- Coming off a 100-yard rushing performance last week, Patterson managed 72 yards on the ground while throwing for 299 on 15-for-26 passing.
- The UIndy defense generated a season-best six sacks, including two from TJ Cothron and 1.5 from Alvin Contreras.
- Cothron and Jerrell Franklin Jr. shared the team lead with nine tackles.
- Three Hounds had receptions of at least 40 yards, including Taylor Clark (79 yards), Kaleb Carver (47 yards) and Marterius Boyd (44 yards).
- Junior d-lineman Davon Watson blocked a Bearcat extra-point try in the second quarter, good for UIndy's first blocked PAT since 2024.
 - Senior DB Nashon Johnson earned his first interception of the season in the third quarter.
