Hounds Outlasted By #5 Lubbock Christian

INDIANAPOLIS – In their second match of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, the No. 17 UIndy men's tennis team was edged out by No. 5 Lubbock Christian 4-2.  

After a tight doubles point, singles wins from Tadeo Gaggiofatto and Mathieu Derache contested the Chaparral's lead, but fell short down the stretch of singles play. 

INS AND OUTS
LCU took a 1-0 lead in the opening doubles point, beginning with Marco Seccia and Adrea Rossi Principe's 6-3 win over Lorenzo Di Cursi and Jovan Matovic at #3 doubles. The Chaps clinched the doubles point after Andres De Los Rios Kolejewska and Pablo Segura bested Zaid Shelbaya and Tadeo Gaggiofatto 6-4 at #2 doubles. 

UIndy made a response at #2 singles, where No. 21 Gaggiofatto took down seventeenth-ranked De Los Rios Kolejewska 6-2, 6-2 to level the match at 1-1. LCU answered back at #4 singles, with No. 18 Segura overcoming Matovic 6-4, 6-2, regaining a 2-1 lead. 

Derache evened the score at 2-2 with his win at #3 singles, upending No. 26 Mattia Ghedin in the distance 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. 

The Chaps went back on top at #1 singles, when fourth-ranked Kelly Giese outlasted No. 20 Asier Ayllon Prado 5-7, 6-4, 6-1. 

Rossi Principe sealed the match for LCU in the six spot, with a narrow 1-6, 4-6, 6-4 comeback victory over Di Cursi

UP NEXT
The Hounds will contend for the seventh-place match against No. 9 Azusa Pacific at the Midwest Tennis Center at 2 PM Sunday.
