Men's Tennis Knocks Down No. 9 Azusa Pacific 4-3, Finish 7th In ITA National Indoor Draw

INDIANAPOLIS – In their final fixture of the 2026 ITA Men's National Team Indoor Championship, the No. 17 UIndy men's tennis team defeated No. 9 Azusa Pacific 4-3. They finished the draw with a 1-2 record, taking 7th place in the competitive field.

It was UIndy who stuck first in the doubles point, with wins from positions #2 and #3. Despite a back and forth affair, The Greyhounds found singles victories from Tadeo Gaggiofatto, Asier Ayllon Prado, and Lorenzo Di Cursi secured the match.

INS AND OUTS
Di Cursi and Jovan Matovic made the first imprint in doubles play, knocking down Joan Crespo and Christopher Marci 6-2 at #3 doubles. Gaggiofatto and Zaid Shelbaya closed the doubles point for UIndy with their 6-3 win over David James Brownlee and Viktor Van Craenenbroeck in #2 doubles.

Landing the first blow in singles play was No. 21 Gaggiofatto, skating past Brownlee 7-6, 6-3 at #2 singles. But in a matter of minutes, the Cougars took their first point on court #4, where Van Craenenbroeck bested Matovic 6-4, 6-4.

APU then leveled the match at 2-2 when Mathys Piniot outlasted Mathieu Derache 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 at #3 singles. Despite this, UIndy found another response, as No. 21 Ayllon Prado overcame a one-set deficit on Soeren Grandke, the No. 6 singles player in the county. The Hounds found themselves up 3-2 after AAP's 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win at #1 singles.

The Cougars kept the match alive on court #5, where No. 46 Crespo took down Vlad Gorbatenko 6-1, 6-1, tying the match at 3-3.

The fate of the match would be decided at #6 singles, where Di Cursi duked it out with Marci. After Di Cursi's resounding 6-2 win in the first set, he kept his foot on the gas to cross the finish line, taking home a 6-2 win in the second.
