INDIANAPOLIS – In the first round of the ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship, the UIndy women's tennis team fell to No.1 Barry 4-0. The Greyhounds move to 2-3 on the season, while the Buccaneers improve to 5-0.
After Barry took the opening doubles point, the Bucs found wins at singles positions #1, #5, and #6 to complete the sweep.
INS AND OUTS
It was Barry getting on the board first in doubles action, with Anastasia Nikolova and Victoriia Dema downing Jimena De Pablos Hernando and Sofia Cardenas 6-0 at #3 doubles. Alien Crespo and Louana Lutringer clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win at #1 doubles over Magda Kornijczuk and Maelys Thiery-James.
The momentum for the tournament's top seed continued in singles action, with Lutringer taking down Liza Simak 6-0, 6-2 at #5 singles. Dana Heiman, the No. 3 singles player in DII, then defeated Kornijczuk 6-1, 6-3 on court #1 to increase the Buccaneer lead to 3-0. They clinched the match in #6 singles, with Jenifer Anger besting Cardenas 6-3, 6-2.
