INDIANAPOLIS— The University of Indianapolis women's basketball team fell to Lewis Flyers 63-56 on Saturday afternoon in the Nic.
Patricia Chikamba led the Hounds with 22 points, converting 8 of 12 field goal attempts and securing 11 rebounds.
Amyrah Sapenter added 10 points, making 4 of 5 from the charity stripe.
Autumn Rucker also contributed 10 points and recorded two assists.
Graycie Poe made an impact with two steals in the game.
INS & OUTS
UIndy opened the game with a strong performance, dominating inside the paint early with a series of layups. Sapenter contributed significantly, scoring eight points, including two layups, to give the team an initial boost. Chikamba added crucial free throws and a layup, helping the Greyhounds extend their advantage. Despite turnovers and defensive pressure from Lewis, the Greyhounds maintained their lead by capitalizing on free-throw opportunities and effective rebounding, closing the first quarter ahead 20–13.
UIndy maintained its lead early in the second quarter with
Kylah Lawson's layup assisted by Chikamba, extending the margin to 22–14. However, Lewis mounted a comeback, closing the gap and eventually taking the lead with a 3-pointer by Ally Cesarini at 2:28. UIndy responded with points from
Jaelynne Murray and free throws by Sapenter to remain competitive, ending the quarter trailing 30–28.
UIndy narrowed the gap early in the third quarter with Chikamba scoring a three-point play at 9:00 to bring the score to 32-31. Despite turnovers, the Greyhounds kept the game close with strategic plays, including an important layup by Sapenter at 4:53 and a fast-break layup by Chikamba at 1:53, assisted by
Autumn Rucker, cutting the lead to just two points. However, the quarter concluded with Lewis maintaining a slight edge, leading 42-38 going into the final quarter.
In a tightly contested final quarter, UIndy took the lead early with a layup by Chikamba at 9:52, assisted by Rucker. The Greyhounds maintained pressure, with Chikamba scoring again on a jumper at 7:18, keeping the game close. Lewis responded with a series of successful plays, including a fast-break layup by Cesarini, shifting the momentum. Despite a 3-pointer by Murray at 5:37 that narrowed the gap, turnovers in the final minutes hindered UIndy's comeback efforts. The game concluded with the Greyhounds falling to Lewis, 63-56.
