SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — UIndy fell to Missouri S&T in a tightly contested game, 11-10, at Mark Worley Field on Saturday. The Greyhounds staged a significant comeback with an eight-run fifth inning but were unable to hold off Missouri S&T, which secured the win with two runs in the ninth.
Austin Bode's home run in the fifth inning marked his fifth home run of the season, and also his 100th career hit for the Greyhounds in just his second season.
Gavin Smith started today's contest and pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and four runs while striking out one, which also was his fourth start of the season in his first season with the team.
INS & OUTS
Missouri S&T took an early lead in the second inning, scoring three runs. W. Beckham scored on a throwing error, and D. Damgaard and A. Cizek crossed the plate on a wild pitch. The score stood at 3-0 after two innings. In the third inning, Missouri S&T added to its lead when W. Beckham scored on an RBI single by A. Cizek, extending the lead to 4-0. Missouri S&T built a commanding lead in the fourth inning with five runs. A series of hits, including an RBI triple by D. Baugus and a two-RBI triple by W. Beckham, pushed the score to 9-0.
The Greyhounds responded in the fifth inning with an eight-run rally.
Brayton Bowen singled and scored, while
Joey Humphrey and
Maddux Bach each added RBIs.
Austin Bode hit a two-run homer, narrowing the deficit to 9-8. The eighth inning saw the Greyhounds retake the lead. Bach scored on a single by
Garrett Rusch, followed by Bode scoring on a wild pitch, putting the team ahead 10-9.
Missouri S&T regained the lead in the ninth inning. B. Wibbenmey, a pinch runner, scored on an error, and J. Evans added an unearned run, to clinch the ninth inning comeback for Missouri S&T.Â
