Third Quarter Shutout Pushes Hounds Past UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – In game one of the No. 3 UIndy women's lacrosse team's Colorado road trip, the Hounds pulled away with a strong second second half performance over Colorado-Colorado Springs, 16-8.

The Greyhounds' second half adjustments proved to be key in Tuesday's outcome, holding the Mountain Lions to just two second half goals which included a third quarter shut out. This is the 13th time in the last two seasons UIndy has held a team scoreless in a quarter, with the last time against Maryville in the NCAA Regional Final.

Malaena Michielin once again led the Greyhounds attack today with four first half goals, but was accompanied by the likes of; Margaret Galloway, Megan Gehrt, Reese Fahlke and Sage Da Silva who all combined for 10 goals and seven assists. While Amanda Hurry headed the defensive charge, picking up four ground balls and causing two turnovers.

INS & OUTS
For the first time all season, the Greyhounds trailed in the first quarter of a game after UCCS got on the board just over a minute in. But the Hounds rebounded with four of the game's next five goals, with Ella Fornek netting UIndy's opener just three minutes later. Fornek's goal is her third of the season, and the 61st of her Greyhound career.

Heading into the second quarter only ahead by one, the Hounds reeled off four straight goals to begin the second 10 minutes of action. Michielin grabbed three goals in the first seven minutes of the quarter, with Olivia Bladon capping the scoring run. But the Mountain Lions stopped the bleeding, and responded with three goals of their own to cut the deficit to just two, 8-6, headed to the break.

The second half was a complete flip of the script from the first half, with UIndy outscoring UCCS 8-2 the rest of the way. UIndy was able to pitch a third quarter shutout, with Ava Graham stopped five shots, including two free position shot attempts. Graham has now stopped a program record 282 shots in her Greyhound career after her eight saves today, surpassing Cassidy King

Two fourth quarter goals from Fahlke, and one goal a piece from Da Silva and Galloway were able to salt the game away for the Hounds and deny the Mountain Lions their second win of the 2026 season.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Hurry's four ground balls are tied with Hollis Rang and Mariah Whitfield for the most in a game this season.
