NORTH CANTON, Ohio— The University of Indianapolis men's lacrosse team handled the Walsh Cavaliers, 21-6, in North Canton, Ohio on Wednesday afternoon.
Redshirt junior Matt Pereira netted eight goals for UIndy, tying the program's single-game scoring record. The Hounds' all-out offensive effort marks the fourth-most goals in a game in program history, and the most since April 4, 2023, when the squad also hung 21 on Davenport. UIndy's nine-goal fourth quarter marks the most in a period since the Hounds scored 10 goals in the opening quarter against the Quincy Hawks on April 13, 2024.Â

The game opened with the Greyhounds setting the pace as Tanner Hahm scored the first goal at 11:49, assisted by Pereira. Despite Walsh's efforts to counter, UIndy maintained control, with AJ Preachuk making crucial saves to keep the opposition at bay.
The Cavilers managed to equalize at 7:50, but the Greyhounds quickly regained momentum. Nick Luitwieler, assisted by Mason Rockley, and Pereira both found the net in quick succession, extending their lead. Pereira added another goal, assisted by Keegan Laughlin, closing the quarter with the Greyhounds leading 4-1.
The Hounds capitalized on a turnover early in the second quarter, as Hahm scored with an assist from Jaxon Parisi, giving them momentum. A series of defensive efforts, including a turnover caused by Lachlan Korn, helped maintain pressure on Walsh.
Walsh managed to score at 11:43, but the Greyhounds responded effectively with Pereira finding the net assisted by Mitchell Carik, reestablishing a strong lead. They maintained control, ending the quarter with a 6-2 advantage over Walsh.
UIndy began the third quarter by winning the faceoff, setting the tone for a strong performance. Although Walsh capitalized early with a man-up goal by Ty Pilkington, the Greyhounds quickly responded when Pereira scored with an assist from Tyler Bernarduci. This goal was part of a six-goal surge during the quarter, beginning with Pereira's shot and continuing with Hahm's impressive contribution of three goals, including a man-up score assisted by Rockley.
The quarter saw the Greyhounds dominate possession, consistently winning faceoffs and executing successful clears, which facilitated their offensive momentum. In a late push, they extended their lead further with additional goals from Hahm, Pereira, and Mike Rettberg, closing the quarter with a commanding 12-4 lead over Walsh.
The Greyhounds dominated the fourth quarter, starting with a faceoff win by Jonah Koehler that led to a quick goal by Pereira. They continued their offensive momentum with Pereira scoring again, assisted by Tanner Culleton, extending their lead. Bernarduci added another goal with an assist from Dalton Yates, maintaining pressure on Walsh. By the halfway mark, the Greyhounds were firmly in control, leading 16-4.
Ethan Griffin scored, widening the gap further, and despite two goals from Walsh, the Greyhounds responded with goals from Pereira and Gavin Feradi. They maintained possession effectively, culminating in goals from Trent Taylor and another from Pereira in the final minute, assisted by Charlie Johnson, to close the game with a commanding 21-6 victory.
