Softball Nets Saturday Sweep at SBU

BOLIVAR, Mo. — The No. 9 UIndy softball team notched a pair of dubs at Southwest Baptist University on Saturday, winning the first game decisively, 13-0, and claiming the second game with a 7-3 comeback victory.

The Greyhounds will take on Drury University on Sunday, March 29, in Springfield, Mo. The game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET as UIndy looks to continue its impressive form as the visiting team.

GAME 1 | UIndy 13, SBU 0 (5 innings)
The Greyhounds kicked off their offensive charge early. Brooklyn Willis scored on a double by Cheyenne Eads, putting the Hounds in the lead at 1-0 by the end of the first inning. In the second inning, Ella Palm doubled and scored, with RBIs from Eads and Maya Rodriguez, who singled to drive in two runs. Shelby Cook's bases-loaded walk added another run, ending the inning with the Hounds ahead, 5-0. The third inning saw more fireworks as Peyton Cusack and Willis got on base, setting up Josie Jager's two-run double to left center. Rodriguez grounded out but tacked on another RBI, stretching the lead to 9-0. The Greyhounds kept the pressure on in the fourth inning. Emma Piercy scored on a sacrifice fly by Cara Cooper, and Paige Vickery followed suit. Sydney Oliver's single drove in the third run, widening the gap to 12-0. Willis wrapped up the scoring for UIndy in the fifth with a solo home run, sealing the deal at 13-0.

Eads was stellar in the circle, pitching four innings without giving up an earned run. She faced 17 batters, struck out three, walked one, and allowed only three hits. Isabelle Noble pitched one inning of relief, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out one batter, ensuring the Bearcats remained scoreless.

Willis was a powerhouse at the plate, scoring four runs and hitting a homer. Cooper boosted the Hounds with two runs scored and one RBI, reaching base via a walk and sacrifice fly. Eads contributed with three RBIs and a double, while Jager added three RBIs with a double and drew two walks.

GAME 2 | UIndy 7, SBU 3
In the second game, the Greyhounds found themselves in a 3-0 hole after three innings. However, the game took a dramatic turn in the fourth with a big inning from the Hounds. Josie Jager singled to right, then Maya Rodriguez doubled, advancing Jager to third. Sydney Oliver's fielder's choice brought Jager home. Paige Vickery followed with a double to right-center, driving in two runs. Caitlin Bunte's single scored Vickery, and Cheyenne Eads added two more runs with a single, aided by a throwing error. Cara Cooper scored on another error, securing seven runs in the inning for the Hounds.

Bunte pitched a complete game for the Hounds, allowing three runs, two earned, over seven innings. She faced 32 batters, struck out six, walked one, and gave up seven hits. Bunte threw 124 pitches on her way to her earning her 14th win of the season. Eads again made a significant impact at the plate with two RBIs and one hit, bolstering the Hounds' offense. Vickery added two hits, including a double, drove in two runs, and scored once. Jager finished with two hits and scored a run, offering a steady presence at the plate.
