Hounds Come Up Short Against Bearcats

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — This Friday, the UIndy baseball team came up short against McKendree in a closely contested matchup, with a final score of 7-6. The Greyhounds scored six runs on eight hits, highlighted by four doubles and three home runs.

Aidan Pearson had the start on the mound for the Greyhounds, pitching seven innings while allowing four earned runs. He notched 3 strikeouts on the day, while giving up just one walk. Drake Downing entered in relief, pitching one inning and conceding two earned runs on a pair of Bearcat doubles. Downing was charged with the loss, bringing his season record to 1-3.

INS AND OUTS
Brayton Bowen put the Greyhounds on the scoreboard first with a solo homer into right field in the third inning. Joey Humphrey followed with a double to left field, and Garrett Rusch's ground-rule double brought Humphrey home, making it 2-0 for the Greyhounds after three innings.

Bowen belted his second long ball of the day in the fourth inning to give the Hounds a 3-0 lead.  Maddux Bach added a double and eventually scored on Austin Bode's single, cushioning the lead to 4-0. McKendree responded with a run, closing the inning with the Greyhounds leading 4-1.

Solen Munson expanded the Greyhounds' lead in the fifth inning with a two-run homer down the right-field line, bringing in Chase Mason who had walked. McKendree added another run, but the Greyhounds maintained a 6-2 edge. 

McKendree narrowed the gap in the sixth inning with a homer from Gavin Arseneau and another run scored on a groundout, cutting the UIndy lead to 6-4.

In the eighth inning, McKendree took advantage of an error and timely hitting to score three runs, overcoming the Greyhounds' lead to go ahead 7-6.

UIndy's comeback effort was well-fought in the ninth, loading the bases with a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch. With two outs, Owen Dunn found a crucial flyout off the bat of Solen Munson, clinching a 7-6 win.

- Solen Munson delivered a commendable performance, hitting a home run and collecting two RBIs. 
- Brayton Bowen powered the offense with two home runs, contributing two runs and two RBIs. 
- Joey Humphrey added two doubles and scored once in the game. Pearson pitched seven innings, allowing four earned runs while striking out three batters.

UIndy will remain in Edwardsville for a double-header against McKendree, with the first pitch set for 1 PM.
