Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Mac Wissel, Sports Information Graduate Assistant

No. 15 Men's Tennis Sweeps UMSL 7-0

ST. LOUIS – To wrap up their stay in the Gateway of the West, the No. 15 UIndy men's tennis team swept Missouri-St. Louis 7-0. UIndy found their fifth consecutive win, and improved to 11-4 on the season. 

After winning all three doubles matches, that momentum persisted throughout UIndy's lineup, taking every singles flight win little err. 

INS AND OUTS
Tadeo Gaggiofatto and Zaid Shelbaya were on the board first for UIndy, skating past Joan Garros and Henry Roberts 6-1 at #2 singles. Asier Ayllon Prado and Mathieu Derache came next, posting a 6-3 win over Thomas Greise and Percy Siercke. 

The doubles sweep was completed by Lorenzo Di Cursi and Jovan Matovic, who gritted out a 7-4 tiebreaker win over Andrea Ricart and Daniel Berdecio at #3 doubles.  

Gaggiofatto, the No. 34-ranked DII singles player, set the tone in singles for the Hounds, overpowering Siercke 6-1, 6-2 at #2 singles. 

UIndy took a 4-0 lead after a pair of wins at #5 and #6 singles. Di Cursi made quick work of Jose Yanez at #6 singles, taking home a 6-2, 6-1 win. Shelbaya then breezed past Ricart 6-3, 6-4 win at #5 singles to clinch the match for UIndy. 

After the win was already sealed, No. 15 Ayllon Prado kept his foot on the gas for the Hounds, outgunning Greise 6-4, 7-5 at #1 singles. 

UIndy completed the sweep with a two super tie break wins, coming from positions #3 and #4. Derache mounted a comeback effort on court #3, outpacing Berdecio 2-6, 7-5, 10-3. Matovic brought out the brooms with his comeback win, who sweated out a 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 win over Roberts at #4 singles.

The Greyhounds will return home for another league dual, hosting Illinois Springfield next Saturday, April 18, at 11 AM.
