INDIANAPOLIS – This Saturday, the No. 14 ranked UIndy men's tennis team defeated Illinois Springfield 6-1. The Greyhounds improve to 12-4 on the season, and a perfect 9-0 in region play.
It was smooth sailing for UIndy once they took the doubles point, winning five of six singles matches.
INS AND OUTS
Tadeo Gaggiofatto and Zaid Shelbaya took the first result in the Hounds' favor, downing Miran Todorovic and Kai Van-Roon 6-2 at #2 doubles. UIndy clinched the opening point from Asier Ayllon Prado and Mathieu Derache, who took down Pablo Herrera and Lin En Tan 6-3 at #1 doubles.
Gaggiofatto kept momentum rolling for UIndy with his win at #2 singles over Antonio Ayerbe Streubel, defending his No. 42 national ranking with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Jovan Matovic was next to finish for the Hounds on court #3, defeating Tan 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
Derache extended the lead to 4-0 after a dominant win at #4 singles, breezing past Van-Roon 6-4, 6-1. Nicolas Balzola tacked on another point for the Hounds in emphatic fashion, dishing a 6-0, 6-0 double-bagel to Colton Pazdera. Shelbaya closed the afternoon for the UIndy at #5 singles, besting Lukas Pieringer 6-2, 6-3.
