INDIANAPOLIS – To finish the non-conference schedule of the regular season, the No. 14 UIndy men's tennis team swept Purdue Northwest 7-0. The victory improves their regional record to 10-0, moving to 13-4 overall.
After domination on the doubles court, singles play hosted the same fate for the Hounds in their fifth sweep of the season.
INS AND OUTS
UIndy got started with a bang in doubles by Arda Aroyo and Nicolas Balzola, who posted a comfortable 6-1 win on court #3 over Daniel Sroka and Raphael Valente in their debut as a team.
Backing them up was Asier Ayllon Prado and Mathieu Derache, as they took down Samuel Dickson and Dani Chicano Melero 6-3 at #1 doubles. Doubles was captured after Tadeo Gaggiofatto and Zaid Shelbaya defeated Joao Martins and Pedro Diaz 6-4.
In singles, Jovan Matovic came out of the gate strong, breezing past Martins 6-1, 6-4 on court #3. No. 16 Ayllon Prado followed suit, replicating that 6-1, 6-4 score on Dickson at #1 singles. No. 42 Gaggiofatto call game at #2 singles, overpowering Chicano Melero 6-2, 7-5.
DI Cursi came next for UIndy, posting a 6-2, 6-3 win at #6 singles over Sroka. Derache outlasted Valente at #4 singles, taking home a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win. Shelbaya called game in a tight affair with Diaz, clinching the sweep with a 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 win on the super tie break.
