INDIANAPOLIS – This Saturday, No. 49 UIndy women's tennis team swept Illinois Springfield 7-0. The Hounds improve to 7-10 on the season, while picking up their seventh in-region win.
UIndy's uncontested win at all three doubles positions set the table for sheer dominance in singles competition, taking every singles match in straight sets.
INS AND OUTS
The clean sweep got started on doubles court #3, where Jimena De Pablos Hernando and Sofia Cardenas breezed past Jane Carter and Cristina Mendoza Romero 6-2.
At #2 doubles, Liza Simak and Maelys Thiery-James were next to finish, downing Maria Garcia Game and Alisha Deogaonkar 6-4. Doubles ended with Silvia Zappoli and Magda Kornijczuk outlasting Ema Norma Bordean and Niamh Grogan 7-5.
De Pablos Hernando began singles play with a bang on court #2, serving a bagel and breakstick combo to Mendoza Romero in the 6-0, 6-1 win. Kornijczuk followed suit at #3 singles, using a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win over Deogaonkar to give the Hounds a 3-0 lead.
Thiery-James gave UIndy a 4-0 lead with a gutsy 6-4, 6-4 win at #1 singles over Bordean. Cardenas then made quick work of Garcia Gama at #6 singles, dishing out a 6-0, 6-0 double-bagel.
UIndy took a 6-0 lead off the stick of Simak at #5 singles, overpowering Carter 6-2, 6-0. Shortly after, Zappoli brought out the broom against Grogan to complete the sweep, posting a 6-1, 6-2 win.
