ROMEOVILLE, Ill.— The University of Indianapolis men's lacrosse team concluded its season in the GLVC Quarterfinal, falling to the No. 1-seeded Lewis 8-12.
In his first collegiate start between the pipes, sophomore Charlie Zak recorded a new program high for saves in a GLVC tournament game with 16 on the day.
The Hounds went 13-for-23 at the dot with TJ Reddington leading the way, winning eight of his 13 faceoff attempts.
INS & OUTS
After a slow first quarter for UIndy, junior Mason Rockley opened the scoring for the Hounds off a Mike Rettberg assist. After Lewis answered with a goal from Malikye Good, Dalton Yates scored an unassisted goal before finding Keegan Laughlin for back-to-back UIndy goals to make the score 3-7 in favor of the Flyers at the break.
The Hounds came out of halftime firing, with Tanner Hahm finding the back of the net less than two minutes into the third period for the Hounds' third straight goal. After nearly an eight-minute scoring lull, Kohl Wesner found his first goal for the Flyers, to give his team a four-point lead. TJ Reddington answered immediately with a one-man possession, winning the faceoff and scooping up the ground ball before scoring UIndy's second goal of the half.
Mike Rettberg was able to capitalize on the Hounds' first man-up opportunity of the match, courtesy of a Matt Pereira assist, to cut the Flyer lead to two.
Lewis would then go on to score three consecutive goals to extend their lead back to five with one quarter remaining.
Calen Tucker scored the first goal of the final period to bring the score to 7-11 with seven minutes remaining. Tyler Bernarcuci netted the final goal of the match, ending the game 8-12 in favor of the top-seeded Flyers.
INSIDE THE BOX
-The Hounds had eight individual goal scorers in Bernarduci, Laughlin, Rockley, Reddington, Tucker, Hahm, Yates and Rettberg.
-Score recorded a team-high two caused turnovers to set a new single-season record for UIndy with 39.
