INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis secured a decisive 6-1 victory over the University of Illinois Springfield on Sunday. Indianapolis tallied 11 hits, including a home run from
Brayton Bowen, while holding UISÂ to just four hits at home.
Ryan O'Born delivered a strong performance on the mound, pitching 6 innings and allowing just 1 earned run on 4 hits while striking out 4 batters. He demonstrated control with 93 pitches, 61 of which were strikes, and earned his fifth win of the season, bringing his record to 5-2.
Griffin Hallahan provided solid relief, pitching 2 2/3 innings and recording 1 strikeout with 20 strikes out of 32 pitches.
Gavin Smith closed out the game, facing just one batter and throwing 3 pitches.
INS & OUTS
Indianapolis took an early lead in the first inning.
Austin Bode singled up the middle, allowing him to advance to third base after a sacrifice bunt and a fly out.
Chase Mason then drove in Bode with a single through the left side, securing a 1-0 advantage. The score stood at 1-0 after the first inning.
In the third inning, the Greyhounds widened their lead.
Carter Thomas walked, then Bode doubled to center field, bringing Thomas home.
Bret Perry followed with a bunt single, moving Bode to third.
Gavin Duran executed a sacrifice bunt, scoring Bode.
Brayton Bowen added to the total with a single up the middle, driving Perry in, which concluded the inning with the Greyhounds leading 4-0.
The sixth inning saw UIS narrow the gap slightly. Corey Boyette walked and later scored on a double by Noah Caceres, making the score 4-1.
In the seventh inning, the Greyhounds extended their lead again. Duran singled, then Bowen hit a two-run homer to right field, bringing the score to 6-1.
The final innings remained scoreless for both teams. Indianapolis secured a 6-1 victory over the Prairie Stars.
Bode posted an impressive performance, scoring two runs and collecting four hits, including two doubles. Bowen added power to the lineup with a home run and three RBIs. On the mound, O'Born recorded the win, pitching six innings and striking out four while allowing just one earned run.
Indianapolis has a record of 27-19 and is 18-10 in conference play. UIS holds a record of 30-16 with an identical conference record of 18-10.
