No. 38 Women's Tennis Narrowly Edged by Wayne State

DETROIT – In another in-region dual, the No. 38 ranked UIndy women's tennis team fell to Wayne State 5-2. The Greyhounds move to 5-9 on the season, while the Warriors improve to 4-6.

After a narrow fall in the doubles point, singles wins from Liza Simak and Linya Chen weren't enough to pace Wayne State.

INS AND OUTS
The Warriors ended up sweeping the Hounds in doubles play, but UIndy made every match close, falling 6-4 in all three doubles positions.

On court 1, Maelys Thiery-James and Magda Kornijczuk fell to Martyna Szpakowska Justine Beaulieu. Court two saw Noelle Compton make her UIndy debut of the 2026 season with Silvia Zappoli, but ultimately came up short against Malak Arafat and Shantala Uzcategui. Finally, Jimena De Pablos Hernando and Liza Simak were downed at #3 doubles by Selin Kayakent / Rebecca Laynes.

Singles play was also very close, where all of UIndy's losses came by singular service breaks. At #1 singles, Thiery-James was edged by No. 59 Arafat 7-5, 6-4, while De Pablos Hernando fell 6-4, 6-4 to No. 51 Szpakowska on court 2.

At #6 singles, UIndy found their first point of the match off the stick of Linya Chen, who overpowered Laynes 6-0, 6-2. Kornijczuk kept the match close at #3 singles, but was downed 7-5, 7-5 by Kayakent.

UIndy registered their second win of the afternoon from Liza Simak, who outlasted Beaulieu 7-5, 7-5.
