GREENWOOD, IN - In the opening round of the GLVC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament, the UIndy women's tennis team blanked Southwest Baptist 4-0. The win advanced the Greyhounds to tomorrow's semifinals, where they face Rockhurst, the No. 1 seed in the East Division.
After setting the tone in doubles competition, singles wins from
Sofia Cardenas,
Silvia Zappoli, and
Magda Kornijczuk completed the sweep for UIndy.
INS AND OUTS
The Hounds got off to a dominant start in doubles on court #3, where Cardenas and
Jimena De Pablos Hernando served a bagel to Ally Bowser and Olivia McGruder, winning 6-0. Doubles action concluded thanks to a 6-3 from Kornijczuk and Zappoli, where they took down Defne Ursan and Maria Clara Zotti 6-3.
Zappoli carried that strong momentum in doubles straight into singles play, dishing out a bagel and a breadstick to Bowser at #5 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0.
Breadsticks were also on the menu for Cardenas, delivering a pair to McGruder at #6 singles in a 6-1, 6-1 win.
The Hounds completed the sweep off the stick of Kornijczuk, who breezed past Zotti 6-2, 6-3 on court #3.

UIndy will face Rockhurst at 3 PM tomorrow, May 2, in the tournament's semifinal at Center Grove High School.
