Hounds Season Ends in NCAA Midwest Regional Final

INDIANAPOLIS – The Greyhounds' historic season came to a conclusion on Saturday in the NCAA DII Midwest Regional Final, falling to the No. 2-seeded Maryville Saints, 11-10.

UIndy finished its 2026 season with the second best record in program history at 18-2, tied with the 2019 season where the Greyhounds also went 18-2. This season also marks the most wins head coach Peyton Romig has had in her three years at the helm of the program.

This year's senior class also combined for an impressive 65 wins as a group in their four-year stretch with the Greyhound program, which included a final four appearance, three NCAA Midwest Regional Final appearances, and an NCAA Tournament appearance in all four seasons.

INS & OUTS
Maryville jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, a common trend in the Hounds and Saints' last two meetings, with Maryville getting out to an early lead in both previous meetings this season. UIndy was able to find five goals of its own in the first half to trim into the Saints' lead to 6-5, which included a goal each from; Malaena Michielin, Megan Gehrt, Olivia Bladon, Reese Fahlke, and Sage Da Silva.

Similar to the first half Maryville extended its lead back up to four, 9-5, but the Hounds once again found a way to claw back into the game by swinging the momentum in its favor with three more goals from Da Silva, Fahlke, and Michielin.

Trailing all afternoon, the Greyhounds were able to square the game at 9-9 early in the fourth quarter after Fahlke's third goal of the afternoon, but Maryville was able to respond with a pair of goals from their leading goal scorers, Helen Bae and Paige Murphy to retake a two-goal lead for the Saints with just over six minutes to play.

Fahlke cut the lead to one with four minutes to play, and were able to generate a pair of chances in the final 10 seconds on shots from Sage Da Silva and Ella Fornek, whose attempt rung the bar of Gianna Guzek's cage, concluding the Hounds, season fighting until the very end.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Fahlke was a force in the draw circle today with six draw controls, while Michielin had five to her name as well.
- Ava Graham had eight saves today, the sixth time this season she's had at least eight saves in a game, and is third straight game with at least eight saves.
- Amanda Hurry, Jenna Hirvonen and Mariah Whitfield all scooped up two ground balls today.
- Along with Hurry's two ground balls, she also caused three turnovers including one in the final 30 seconds to give UIndy its final two late chances.

UP NEXT
UIndy will head to the offseason with its eyes set on next season, and will look to earn its third trip to the NCAA National Semifinals in program history.
