Hounds Bow Out of College World Series to 2025 National Runners-Up

CARY, N.C. – The No. 7 seeded UIndy baseball team's season came to an end on Sunday in the College World Series at the hands of No. 4-seed Central Missouri, 23-9. With today's win, Central Missouri earned a spot in the next round of the consolation bracket to play the winner of the No. 5 seed UT Tyler and the No. 1 seed West Chester.

The Hounds season has come to a close after an incredible run to the team's third College World Series appearance in four seasons. But the team will be poised for another run to the College World Series in 2027, as they are returning nine starters, including six starting and relief pitchers.

INS & OUTS
The Mules had everything going for them today on the offensive side of things, racking up 23 runs on 21 hits.

UIndy found a bit of life in the fourth inning, with five walks, two fielder's choices and a two-run RBI single from Luke Smock, got the Hounds' deficit to seven, 15-8, after four innings. UIndy also brought its nation-leading walk total to 427 after its 15 team walks today, which marks the most in a season dating back to 1999.

Smock's hit in the fourth was only one of five hits the Greyhounds managed all day, with Bret Perry, Gavin Duran and Garrett Rusch the recipients of three of the hits, while Smock got a second hit later on in the eighth.

The Hounds used eight pitchers today which included Ayden Tran, Brady Leonard, Drake Downing, Gavin Smith, Griffin Hallahan, Kaleb Marrs, Ryan O'Born and Ryker Hughes. No pitcher for UIndy went further than three innings pitched, the third time this season they've had a game with at least one pitcher not throwing more than three innings.

UIndy got after the first two pitchers for the Mules, combining for four hits and five earned runs against the two Mules, but Hayes Allen settled things down in the middle half of the game with 3 1/3 innings pitched, only allowing two hits and no runs. Allen's relief effort proved to be enough for Central Missouri, as the 2025 national runners-up stayed alive for one more day in Cary, N.C.
