INS & OUTS
After breaking the program's
single-season home run record earlier in the day,
Brooklyn Willis doubled down with a grand slam in the night cap, fueling a five-run third inning to break it open for the Hounds. Good for her first career salami, the blast made Willis the first-ever Greyhound to reach the 20-homer plateau.
Â
Starting pitcher
Cheyenne Eads got the victory to move to 28-2 on the season. She tossed three innings of one-hit softball, striking out four and walking one. Freshman
Caitlin Bunte came on in relief to finish off the Saints, retiring all six of the batters she faced.
Â
Paige Vickery and
Shelby Cook each had two RBIs in the contest,
Josie Jager had two hits and two runs, and
Maya Rodriguez scored twice.
Â
NOTES
Willis' grand slam was the first by a Greyhound at the GLVC Tournament since Julie Liceaga's four-run bomb versus Missouri S&T in 2018 ... Willis joined another exclusive club Thursday, becoming one of only four GLVC players with 20 or more home runs in a season. The league record currently stands at 23, set by Kaylin Steinmetz of Northern Kentucky University back in 2012.
