FINDLAY, OH – The time for the DII NCAA Women's Tennis Championship has come, with the UIndy women's tennis team preparing to open competition as the #7 seed against No. 14 Findlay, who garnered the #2 seed in the Midwest. The Greyhounds will face the Oilers tomorrow, May 8, at 10 AM in Findlay, OH.
Before the bracket was set, the Hounds put together a strong run in the GLVC Championship Tournament, posting wins against Southwest Baptist and Rockhurst before falling short to Missouri-St. Louis in the title match.
Individually, the Hounds enter the tournament with three players with win streaks of six or more in singles play. Leading the group is Sofia Cardenas, who has won her last 12 matches playing #6 singles. She's currently 19-2 on the season in singles play, with a 15-1 mark in dual play. Cardenas makes a strong pairing in doubles with Jimena De Pablos Hernando at #3 doubles, where they boast a team high 15-6 record.
De Pablos Hernando also shines at #2 singles, with a 15-4 record on the season. The two-time All-GLVC First Team selection has won her last six matches in singles, and has put together a win streak of eight in doubles with Cardenas.
Silvia Zappoli has come into peak form down the stretch of the regular season, with wins in her last seven singles matches. Her record on the season is 12-6, mostly playing #5 singles.
Another Greyhound to keep an eye out on is Maelys Thiery-James, who garnered a bid to the 2026 All-GLVC First Team. The freshman has six wins in dual play playing #1 singles.
Findlay will serve as hosts for the Regional site, earning the #2 overall seed in the Midwest after achieving a strong record of 19-1 in the regular season. The Oilers downed the Greyhounds earlier in the season, posting a 6-1 win over UIndy in February.
The other teams vying for a spot to Nationals are #3 Ferris State and #6 Rockhurst, who will play at 2 PM.
