MARION, Ill. — The UIndy baseball team fell to Missouri S&T, 14-10 on Friday at MTN Dew Park. Despite a strong offensive performance with 18 hits and five doubles, the Greyhounds could not hold off Missouri S&T's late surge, highlighted by an eight-run eighth inning.
Austin Bode recorded three hits and scored two runs, contributing significantly to the team's offensive output.
Bret Perry also added three hits and drove in one run, maintaining a solid presence at the plate.
Gavin Duran posted two RBIs, solidifying his impact on the game's scoring. Thomas crossed home plate three times, showcasing his ability to get on base and score.
INS & OUTS
UIndy took an early lead in the first inning when
Austin Bode doubled and later scored on a single by
Chase Mason, making the score 1-0. In the fourth inning,
Joey Humphrey doubled and scored on a single by Bode.
Carter Thomas also scored later in the inning, tying the game at 3-3.
The Greyhounds surged ahead in the fifth inning with five more runs.
Brayton Bowen reached on an error and scored, and
Garrett Rusch contributed an RBI double.
Joey Humphrey added a sacrifice fly, while Thomas, who singled, also brought in a run. The Greyhounds led 8-3 at the end of the inning.
In the sixth inning, Bowen doubled and scored on a single by
Luke Smock, extending the lead to 9-3. Missouri S&T narrowed the gap in the seventh inning with three runs, making it 9-6, and eventually In the eighth inning, exploded with eight runs, to take a 14-9 lead with only three outs remaining.
Indianapolis managed to score once more in the ninth inning when Thomas walked and scored on a single by
Gavin Duran, but the comeback fell short.
