INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy women's soccer team opened their season with a 2-1 loss at Ohio Dominican.
To open the game both teams traded possession as both teams advanced forward as each found multiple shots before the Greyhounds found the back of the net first. The lead taking strike came in the 18th minute from a UIndy corner where Nicole Schroeder assisted Frances Poulos' first career goal.
After the goal the Hounds looked to keep the pressure up, finding another shot on goal courtesy of Mia Bajic in the 26th minute that was then saved by the Panthers' keeper
Ohio Dominican then looked for a response of their own which was saved by Samaya Hogg. Following the save, the two teams traded possession over the next ten minutes until the Panthers found the back of the net in the 37th minute to tie the game up.
The Greyhounds faced one more attack by the Panthers before the first half came to a conclusion which was also stopped by Hogg.
As the second half kicked off both offenses looked to rev their engines as each found a corner kick within the first five minutes of the half. Emma Simpson then was the first player to place a shot on goal in the second half attacking low and away, but was unable to find the back of the net.
The back and forth nature of the match continued until a costly foul was called on the visiting Greyhounds in the 83rd minute that awarded the Panthers a penalty kick which they converted to claim a 2-1 lead
The match ended 2-1 Ohio Dominican with UIndy claiming the lone assist of the game to pair with their one goal, nine shots and five shots on target. Hogg and the UIndy backline faced 20 shots with Hogg saving seven of the nine she faced that were on target.
The Greyhounds return to action Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. when they head on the road to start conference play at Rockhurst.
