INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy men's soccer team picked up a draw in a 1-1 battle with the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats.
UIndy found a rare chance towards goal in the opening minutes off of a set piece taken by Alessandro Della Vecchia that was directed towards the head of Victor Mayrink, but ended just wide.
After the early chance the Greyhound offense slowed while handling short spurts of offense from the Bearcats in a game where possession was in Greyhound control for the majority.
Entering half, UIndy was the only team with a corner, but still in search of a shot on goal.
The second half remained very similar for the first 30 minutes with UIndy continuing to control possession, but struggling to find opportunities in and around the Southwest Baptist box.Â
That all changed when the 81st minute came around and the Greyhounds found the lead with an excellent header by Keaton Barnhizer off of a well-placed corner delivered by Storm Skandsen. The goal for Barnhizer was the first of his career and the assist for Skandsen was also the first of his career.
The Greyhounds remained on the attack after, continually pushing the ball down the field looking for the final goal to solidify the victory, but in the final minutes the Bearcats showed fight.
After multiple attempts around the UIndy box the Bearcats found their equalizer off an Olimpico that snuck past everyone on the field in the final seconds.
UIndy will return to action Wednesday when they return to Key Stadium at 2:30 p.m. to take on Maryville who is tied for first-place in the GLVC standings.
