Al Ready

Former UIndy baseball standout Al Ready enters his seventh season as the University of Indianapolis baseball head coach in 2025.

Ready has led the Greyhounds to back-to-back NCAA Midwest Super Regional Titles and College World Series appearances in 2023 and 2024. He has bested his winning totals each of the last two seasons, earning a career-high 41 wins in 2024.

In his first season leading the program in 2019, Ready's team achieved a 30-20 record alongside a 19-14 mark in the GLVC. Under his direction, the Hounds put up double-digit runs in 13 games while holding teams to two or less runs 11 times throughout the season. Macy Holdsworth earned All-America honors in his final season as a Greyhound, graduating as the program's all-time hits leader (234).

Before his head coaching tenure began he was the Associate Head Coach from 2013-18 under longtime head coach Gary Vaught, where Ready assisted the Greyhounds to multiple NCAA DII Midwest Regional appearances (2014 & '16), a GLVC Tournament championship (2016) and runner-up finish (2018).

In his time as an Assistant Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator from 2009-12, he was a part of the 2012 NCAA Division II Championship team. UIndy also made back-to-back NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Appearances in 2009 and 2010. In his 2009 season with the team, Ready implemented his team offensive approach, focusing on strike zone awareness, patience and quality at-bats. His philosophies helped set program records in on-base percentage (.411), runs (518), slugging percentage (.469), and RBI (467). That same season the Greyhounds led the GLVC in RBIs, and were second in home runs and team batting average, while also breaking school records in hits (32) and runs (31) in a single game.

In his first season back at his alma mater in 2008 as the Greyhounds pitching coach, Ready helped the pitching staff jump from 11th to fifth in the GLVC in earned run average. He also mentored pitchers Brandon Braboy, the 18th round selection of the New York Yankees in 2008, and Andrew Werner, who made his MLB debut with the San Diego Padres in 2012.

The London, Ontario native served as Sauk Valley Community College's head coach from 2005-07. At Sauk Valley, Ready posted 88 wins and won back-to-back Arrowhead Conference Championships. He was the conference Coach of the Year in both of those seasons ('06-'07), setting school records in wins with 34 in 2006, and finishing as the NJCAA DII Region IV runner-up. Ready coached 11 Arrowhead All-Conference honorees and seven NJCAA Region IV All-Region selections during his time with the Skyhawks. His influence was vital in helping 11 players receive scholarships to four-year schools.

In his two-year tenure as player at UIndy, the switch-hitting Ready batted .352 with 18 home runs, 74 RBI, and held the school record in career walks (109) and most walks in a season (55) upon graduation. He helped lead the team to a third-place finish in the NCAA DII College World Series, and a No. 6 national ranking in 2000. He also earned Second Team All-American honors in 2000, and was included on the Verizon First Team Academic All-American list in 2001.

The 01' and 08' graduate from UIndy, Ready completed his time at UIndy with a bachelor's in Computer Information Systems, and his MBA. He currently resides in Indianapolis with his wife Sarah and their four children; Jacob, Camden, Evelyn and Alaina.
