Al Ready

Former Greyhound standout Al Ready begins his third season with UIndy after recently being named Assistant Head Coach.  Ready moves into this position after spending last year as the Greyhound pitching coach.

“Al has been with us when we've had great success, both as a player and as a coach,” says Vaught. “We're happy for him to get this opportunity.”

A native of London, Ontario, Canada, Ready helped the Greyhound pitching staff jump from 11th in the GLVC in ERA in 2007 to fifth last year.  He also mentored All-GLVC First Teamer Brandon Braboy, who was drafted in the 18th round and signed by the New York Yankees this past spring.

Ready’s resume also boasts head coaching experience.  From 2005-07, he was the head man at Sauk Valley Community College, posting 86 wins and winning back-to-back Arrowhead Conference Championships ('06-'07).  Ready's 2006 team set a school record with 34 victories eventually finishing as NJCAA DII Region IV runner-up.

As a player, Ready’s two-year tenure at UIndy spanned the two most successful seasons in program history.  As a junior, he batted .352 with 18 HR and a school record 74 RBI, leading the 42-23 Greyhounds to a third-place finish in the NCAA II College World Series and a No. 6 national ranking in 2000, while earning 2nd Team All-American honors.

The switch-hitting catcher was a Verizon First Team Academic All-American in 2001, leading the Greyhounds to a school record 51 wins and a fourth straight NCAA II Regional berth.  Ready holds the program marks for career RBI and career walks along with the single-season records for both.

Following graduation Ready played two seasons of professional baseball for the London Werewolves and the Evansville Otters of the Independent Frontier League.

Ready graduated in 2001 with his bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems and a 3.44 cumulative GPA.  He recently completed his MBA with a 3.74 cumulative GPA.

He currently resides in Indianapolis with his wife Sarah (Indianapolis ’01, ’03), and their infant son Jacob.
