Collin Coffer

Collin Coffer '12

A former UIndy student-athlete and graduate assistant, Collin Coffer rejoined the UIndy football staff in 2016, returning to coach the wide receivers full time. He also handles coordinator duties for both specials teams and recruiting.

Coffer helped the Hounds to a dominant campaign in 2019, particularly offensively. UIndy topped the GLVC and ranking in the nation's top 10 in a number of categories, including fewest turnovers lost (1st in DII), scoring offense (2nd), time of possession (4th) and team passing efficiency (6th). Team totals of 47.1 points per game, 506.7 total yards of offense per game, 69 total touchdowns and 147 rushing first downs all set new UIndy benchmarks.

In 2018, Coffer helped UIndy run off 10 consecutive wins, including a first-round playoff victory, on the way to a 10-2 mark. The 38-27 win against No. 19 Fort Hays State marked the program’s second-ever postseason triumph. Prior to that, Coffer was a key part of the 2017 UIndy staff that helped guide the Greyhounds to program records for wins in a season (11), consecutive wins (15) and scoring offense (38.2 ppg, broken in 2019).

All told, Coffer was assisted the Hounds during five successful GLVC title runs and five NCAA DII playoff appearances in his combined seven seasons on the UIndy staff.

Coffer has mentored four All-GLVC First Team wideouts in Daveon Bell, Aaron Matio, Malik Higgins and Garrett Willis. While Bell and Matio are looking forward to their final season in the fall 2021, the latter two both finished their careers in the UIndy career top 10 in both receptions and receiving yards, with Higgins also ranking third in receiving touchdowns.

Immediately after earning his degree from UIndy in the spring of 2012, Coffer spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach for his alma mater, working with the defensive backs in both '12 and '13. He then moved on to become the Assistant Wide Receivers Coach at Ball State in 2014, followed by a one-year stint as the DB Coach at former GLVC-rival Saint Joseph’s College.

As a player, Coffer was a four-year starter at cornerback for the Greyhounds. An All-GLIAC Honorable Mention honoree as a senior, he finished his time at UIndy with seven career interceptions, including a pick-six in a big win over playoff-bound Saginaw Valley State in 2011. He also ran back a blocked field goal 79 yards for a score versus Kentucky Wesleyan in the ‘09 opener and was later named the team’s Defensive Back of the Year in ‘11.
