David Gunter joined UIndy staff in 2022 as the Tight Ends Coach. The Rochester, Ill., native came to the Circle City after spending time at two MAC schools and a pair of Division IIs, including GLVC-member Quincy.
Gunter spent the 2021 season as the Defensive Graduate Assistant at Miami University, working with the linebackers. He helped the RedHawks rank No. 3 in the league in both rushing defense and points allowed on the way to a victory in the Frisco Football Classic Bowl.

He also coached at DII Delta State during the 2020-21 academic year after spending two seasons at familiar Quincy University. As the Hawks’ Offensive Graduate Assistant (TE/FB), Gunter helped the offense break a number school records in the fall of 2019 while leading the GLVC in passing offense.

Gunter started his college coaching career as a Defensive Student Assistant at Illinois State University. He earned a Bachelor of Kinesiology from ISU in 2018 and a Master of Educational Leadership from Quincy in 2020.
