Joans Williams

Jonas Williams

Former Ball State student-athlete Jonas Williams enters his second consecutive season on the UIndy staff and fourth overall.  Williams will again work with the Greyhound running backs after doing the same during the 2006, 2007 and 2012 seasons.

Last year, Williams mentored junior Klay Fiechter in one of the best seasons ever recorded by a Greyhound running back.  Fiechter, who also returned punts and kickoffs, set new program marks for rushing yards (1,475), rushing touchdowns (19), total touchdowns (21), points scored (126), all-purpose yards (2,237) and punt return average (21.3).  Also a 2012 Harlon Hill Trophy candidate, Fiechter was named the GLVC Football Scholar Athlete of the Year before garnering Academic All-America® accolades.

A four-year letterwinner on the Cardinal football team, Williams graduated from Ball State in 2003 and went on to be involved in a number of indianapolis high school football programs, including  holding the title last season of interim head coach at Arlington High School.  He also spent a season as the interim head coach at Arsenal Tech High School, while also assisting on the staffs at Northwest High School and Thomas Carr Howe Community High School.

Williams is also active in youth league programs around the city and has served as an “Academic Coach” in the National Football Foundation's Play It Smart program, an educational program targeted at high school football players from economically disadvantaged environments.

Williams is the proud father of two children, Elijah and Skye.
