Benjamin Spain enters his second season with the Greyhound men's staff after spending the 2009 season as part of the coaching staff for the UIndy women's squad. He assisted Head Coach John Higgins in making a run to the UIndy men's soccer program's first GLVC Championship match in 2010. Along with the tournament run, the Greyhound squad also posted its best-ever mark for GLVC wins, and had the program's first 10-win season in three years.
Spain began his playing career in Lexington, Ky. where he spent two seasons with the Lexington FC Premier. In high school, Spain helped lead his Lexington Catholic High School squad to a state title in 2004 and was was named Lexington All-City, Kentucky Stat Tournament All-Tournament Team, and State Semifinals MVP. In addition to his accolades as a prep, Spain played two years with the Kentucky State Olympic Development Program Team.
Spain's playing career continued at Hanover College in the fall of 2005. As a member of the Panther's squad, he was named First Team All-Conference following his freshman, junior, and senior seasons. Spain also served as team captain for his final three seasons in a Hanover uniform and finished second in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference voting for Freshman of the Year in 2005 and Player of the Year in 2008.
After graduating from Hanover in May of 2009, Spain moved to Indianapolis and is currently attending graduate school at the University of Indianapolis.
