Matthew Roop

Matthew Roop enters his first season as the UIndy men's soccer assistant coach in 2025. 

Roop arrives to UIndy from Manchester University where he was the assistant men's soccer coach (2023-25). In his time on staff with the Spartans', he served as the team's head assistant coach, the reserve team's head coach, led the recruiting efforts of the team, and also directed and organized the fundraising camps and clinics for the program.  

Prior to Manchester, Roop spent one season at The Ohio State University where he served as the men's soccer team's volunteer assistant coach. In his one season with the Buckeyes, the team earned its fewest losses in program history as well as earning its first undefeated non-conference season in program history. 

While in Columbus, OH, Roop also worked for Barca Academy as the 2013 Pre-ECNL and 2009 ECNL boys head coach, as well as serving an Assistant Technical Director for the club. 

Before his time at Ohio State, Roop spent two years at the University of Illinois earning a master's degree in recreation, sport and tourism while also serving as the Premium Seating Graduate Assistant and as an Illinois soccer manager.

Prior to coaching, Roop was a four-year starter and three-time captain on the Manchester soccer team, where he earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) all-league honors twice, and was apart of the winningest team in school history.

Along with his distinguished playing career, he also graduated Summa Cum Laude from Manchester College with a bachelor's degree in marketing and sport management, as well as a minor in sales.
