Alex Nelson

Alex Nelson joins the Uindy coaching staff with a wealth of basketball experience. Nelson grew up in Edinburgh, Scotland where she started playing basketball at the age of 12.  Alex quickly proved herself as one of the best players in the country, representing the national team at every age level.  Nelson moved to the states at 16 to further her basketball career and as a freshman at Panola CC, Nelson led the nation as the only player to have 100 steals and make more than 100 three-pointers in a season.  As a sophomore, Alex led Cincinnati State to a 29-3 record and a sixth place NJCAA National Tournament finish.

As a junior, Nelson joined Florida Gulf Coast University where she was a two year starter for Coach Smesko.  The team had a record of 63-3 over Nelson’s stint, narrowly losing in the championship game her senior year where the Eagles went 33-1.  Nelson earned a Communications degree from FGCU.

Since college, Nelson has played in Germany, Italy and France.  During the 2011-2012 season Nelson led Istres Sports Basket to a championship win and a league promotion.  Nelson finished her professional career in France after the 2012-13 season.
