Primary ATC: Women's Soccer, Baseball
Makenna McAteer joined the UIndy sports medicine staff in the fall of 2019. She currently serves as the athletic trainer for Greyhound women’s soccer and baseball teams after previously supported the UIndy softball program.
McAteer has worked to improve the mental health resources for UIndy student-athletes, coordinating the Mental Health First Aid workshop for the athletic department. She also has advocated for increased access to sports psychologists, updated UIndy's mental health policy, wrote a disordered eating policy, and implemented a more thorough and improved mental health screen for our incoming and returning student-athletes.
In addtion, McAteer created a partnership with the UIndy Master of Counseling program to help support the needs of student-athlete. Currently, she is working on a student-athlete-led support group called Pursuing Athlete Wellness (PAW) for student-athletes to support, connect and uplift each other.
Prior to coming to UIndy, McAteer worked at Georgia State University as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer, covering women’s soccer and football while obtaining a Master of Science in Exercise Science. She completed her bachelor's in Athletic Training at the University of Pittsburgh in 2017, gaining experience with Pitt football and track &field, as well as experience with Carnegie Mellon University and a local high school.
In her free time, Makenna enjoys baking, reading, playing with her dog Moxley, and exploring new eats.
