Head Swimming Coach Gary Kinkead, now in his 14th season at the helm, has led the Greyhounds into uncharted waters in his tenure at UIndy. Kinkead has solidified the Greyhound swim program as one of the elite in Division II. After the men's and women's squads finished in the top ten at the 2007 NCAA Division II Championships, both UIndy swim teams have placed in the top twenty in the nation for each of the last eight years.
The men's tenth place finish at last year's national meet was buoyed by 14 All-American performances by five swimmers. On the women's side, the Hounds set a program record by placing sixth in the nation with the help of 25 All-American efforts by seven student-athletes.
Another highlight from the 2006-07 season came away from the pool as junior Ellie Miller was named to the 2007 ESPN the Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America Women's At-Large Academic All-America® College Division Third Team.
In 2005-06, the University of Indianapolis hosted the NCAA Division II National Championship meet, the first of its kind at the school, housed at the world-famous IU Natatorium at IUPUI in downtown Indy. 10 different Greyhounds earned All-America status at the meet, as the women finished ninth and the men 11th, overall.
Kinkead led his 2002-03 Greyhounds to a then-school-record 10th-place finish at the 2003 NCAA II Nationals. Kinkead's Hounds posted a 48-31 record while ranking fourth in NCAA II in semester grade point average.
His 2001-02 squad was 37-26-1, placing 15th at the 2002 NCAA II Nationals.
Kinkead led his 2000-01 squad to a school-record 12th at the NCAA II Nationals.
Kinkead's 1999-2000 team was 21-13 with a 15th-place finish at the NCAA II Nationals.
His 1998-99 team posted a 34-12 record and the Transylvania Invitational title. The Hounds finished 28th at the NCAA II Nationals and earned runner-up honors at the Wabash, Vincennes, and UIndy Invitationals. They were ranked as high as fourth in NCAA II, defeating Ashland and Eastern Illinois in duals.
Kinkead's 1997-98 Hounds were 29-18 and ranked 18th in NCAA II, winning the Wabash Invitational.
Kinkead led his 1996-97 men's team to the Vincennes Invitational crown and a 30-20 mark. His 1995-96 men's team was 19-18 in spite of having only 10 swimmers. And, his 1994-95 Indy men's team posted a 29-15 mark (.659).
